My brother sent me a training plan for getting into shape to run a 10K. I've never been much of a runner, but with just having had a baby and really feeling the need to get into shape, and with the weather warming up and everybody wanting to get more active, I was looking for something I could do at all hours, with or without children, for free or close to it. Voila, running. So a couple of weeks ago, I decided to start, and it was awesome! As promised, the training plan was very kind and left me wanting more, rather than feeling like I was beyond help. My family has gotten into it now, too, so we take 2 jogging strollers out and Jim, Micaiah, Teran, and I take turns pushing Allegra, Karis, and Charity, while somebody holds Elsie's leash. (Allegra runs some of the time; Cairo, while still quite cheerful, is getting too stiff and sore in her joints to go running.) Thanks, BK!
Wonderful, great, awesome! So what's the trouble? This: yummy cake! Somehow, I must learn to say no. At least this tub of yummy goodness is going into the freezer so as to not tempt me on a daily, or hourly, basis.
Here's my latest and greatest alternative. I was trying to decide how to create a dessert for some friends who are currently avoiding sugar, dairy, and wheat. The awesome confection you see below was made with quinoa flour and rice flour (freshly ground), raw, local honey, coconut oil, cocoa powder and walnuts, and was, thankfully, delicious. The nice thing is, it doesn't seem to have the addictive power over me that the cake has. It may have that power over Jim, but this isn't his blog!
So, the moral of the story? For me, at least, it's go running and eat better. I feel great when I do,
