Technology

This is new: in the past week we've been struck by how technologically minded our children are.  We don't seek out technology, but we use it in everyday life, and our kids are learning tons just by watching.

Last week we had the privilege of introducing them to the concept of landline phones.  ("Oh, you mean a phone that's attached to the wall, like at Grandma's?"  "Yes, dear.") And even better than that, at the local museum, we even got to teach them to use a rotary phone!  Yikes!  I didn't think I was old enough to have a phone from my childhood be in a museum!!  It was pretty fun, though, for them to try it out.

Today Allegra made a passing comment about iPads over breakfast.  Jim and I just looked at each other, wondering where she'd learned about iPads.  We'll eventually own them, but she's obviously quite comfortable with them already.  Turns out she remembers playing games with Brynn last summer in Seattle.  Good memory!

And, today, Karis sent her first text message.  The content? ".Cxqza;xxx.,"and I quote.  Good thing Susan didn't take it personally!  Do I text so much that she knows how to do it?  Not sure, but I'll keep a closer eye on the phone!
